Active Listening
Learn to hear what people are actually saying, check understanding and make others feel heard.
Practical leadership development
Most managers are promoted for technical ability, not taught how to build trust. Pillar Skills develops practical communication and leadership skills that improve performance, accountability and engagement.
The problem
High-performing teams are not built on talent alone. They rely on trust, clear expectations and people who are willing to speak honestly.
Managers avoid difficult conversations. Feedback is too vague. People stop listening because they are focused on what they want to say next. Small problems are left until they become bigger ones.
These challenges are not unique to one sector. They appear wherever people work together towards shared goals.

For more than 14 years I've served in the British Army, leading people in environments where trust, communication and accountability aren't optional, they're essential.
I've deployed on operational tours and worked alongside people making decisions under pressure, often in situations where the quality of leadership had real consequences.
What stood out wasn't rank, experience or technical expertise. It was how people communicated.
The strongest leaders weren't always the most knowledgeable. They were the ones who listened properly, built trust, had honest conversations and created the conditions for others to perform at their best.
Over the years, I watched capable people get promoted into management and struggle. Not because they lacked ability, but because nobody had taught them the skills that sit at the heart of leadership: listening, feedback, coaching and communication.
Those challenges aren't unique to the military. They're common in every organisation.
That's why I created Pillar Skills.
The workshops are practical, straightforward and built around real-world experience. No jargon. No complicated models. Just tools and techniques managers can use immediately to improve conversations, strengthen relationships and build higher-performing teams.
A practical 90-minute Active Listening workshop for managers. Use the session to see how Pillar Skills works and whether it is right for your organisation.
